A tiring, burdensome, but praiseworthy life journey
There are many instances in
our lives where those around us require too much of our time, space, and
energy. They seem to rob our available resources for their own purposes—to
regain their losses, to recover from a fall, or to ease their hurts and pains.
It becomes harder when we too
are in the same or even worse situation: broken and hurt.
As much as we want to share whatever is left, we too are weak and are in need
of the same consolation, affection, and empathy others require of us.
The wounds that hurt us, the
different lids that put us in the dark, and the sorrows that immobilize us are
not different from what others experience. They only take another form or
color. They all cause us to be perplexed and bewildered.
When we think our hardships
are too heavy and that our sorrows have overtaken our joys, it's time to pause
and spend time listening to the sentiments of the people around us—not to
identify whether we are in a better or worse situation, but to make us realize
that we are all in the same universal human condition: weak, wounded, and
broken.
The Lord Jesus said,
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV).
One special thing we must
celebrate amid all the very human realities is another reality that our Lord
Jesus offers salvation, which is not only after death but most importantly in
the here and now: comfort, healing, renewed strength, and rest while in this
tiring, burdensome, but praiseworthy life journey.
